  Today was the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Husband Mike was up, getting ready to take resident greyhounds Ava and Alex on a morning romp with their Sunday morning playgroup.  Lucky, our latest foster, had a sore foot from a misstep yesterday so, knowing we wouldn’t be able to hold him back from running with the hounds and risking further aggravation, I told Mike to go on without us and I would just give Lucky a walk around the neighborhood and work on his leash manners. I take the responsibility of fostering greyhounds very seriously.  I want them to be the best they can be so that when they find their forever homes there is no chance of them ever having to be uprooted again.  I want them to have good leash manners; I want them to never counter surf; I want no unwarranted barking (squirrel sentinel notwithstanding); I want no ripping the squeaky heart out of toys (dream on); and I want no furniture lounging.  The last rule is just in case their new owners actually don’t allow dogs on the furniture.  Really?  Can...

Thanksgiving Thankful with a Twist

I received this today from a friend and just had to share it!  She has two greyhounds, Harmony and Harley.  Too cute! Today is Harmony’s birthday, she is eight years old.  Harley turned five a few weeks ago.  In keeping with the season, I would like to give thanks for just a few things… I’m thankful that I have greyhounds instead of kids.  If Harmony and Harley were human children, I would be worrying about whether or not I should have enrolled Harley in pre-school or waited another year.  He’s a little immature, but his social skills are good. ...

The Legend of Lola

Lola arrived in California with a group of racing greyhounds out of Phoenix, Arizona at 2 ½ years of age.  She was tested as cat safe and adopted by a family.   Legend is that the family started lure coursing her “for fun”.   After about 18 months with this family, prey drive fully awakened by her coursing, she killed the family cat.  The family immediately turned her back in to the greyhound placement agency.
